What $0 gets you

The public free plan gives you a small building budget and separate grants for running apps and app AI. These are the current listed allowances, not a promise of how much any particular app will cost.

The review

Lovable turns a written brief into a website or web-app prototype. We tried two different jobs: a bright arcade game and Prism Studio, a fictional creative-studio client portal. The interesting part was seeing attractive designs do something useful, rather than just look finished.

Our game brief asked for Scroll Survival: dodge clickbait obstacles and collect truth tokens. Arrow-key movement, falling obstacles, collision and game over worked. Retry worked too, and pause/resume stopped and restarted the round. The requested thirty-second countdown was not visible, and we did not verify mobile controls, sound or the victory state. It was a playable first draft, with details still to check against the brief.

The game request used 2.10 build credits in this account, moving the daily meter from five to 2.9. That is one recorded build cost, not a fixed price for future games. Lovable says build costs vary with task complexity.

Prism Studio took the test beyond a game. We asked for a project directory, search and filters, project pages, a client portal and an admin dashboard. Search and filters changed the visible results. The fictional client saw her assigned project; the admin saw all three projects.

The useful proof was a status change. We changed Aurora to In review, refreshed, then signed into a separate client session. The client view also showed In review. Visiting the admin route as the client showed a restricted screen. These are encouraging behavior checks, not proof of secure database permissions. The demo logins were built into the prototype, so this was not a place for real client data. We did not test a full edit-form save, new-project creation or a live payment flow.

The free-plan limit is the daily building budget. Our portal work used up the available credits before it was complete, so we returned the next day; the resumed work used three of five daily credits. The account had extra credits during the first day, so that starting allowance is not the standard free plan. Public pricing currently lists five daily build credits, capped at thirty a month, with separate Cloud and app-AI grants.

Our 4.2/5 is an editorial grade for these two small tests. Lovable made an appealing game and a useful client-portal prototype. A focused brief and a habit of checking the result make the free budget more useful. A paid credit allowance can leave more room for iteration, but design polish or a paid plan alone does not make an app production-ready. The catch

The free plan is a small daily building budget, not unlimited app development. The game used 2.10 credits in this test. Our portal work reached the available-credit wall and resumed the next day. Build costs vary.

Two briefs, two real results

Frames from the recorded tests. The portal uses fictional demo data. Screens show behavior, not a security audit.

Scroll Survival game with player, falling obstacles and score on screen

The neon game was playable. Movement, collision, retry and pause/resume worked in our test; the requested countdown was not visible.

Fictional Prism Studio client portal showing Aurora in review

After the admin status change and refresh, a separate client session showed Aurora as In review. No real client information was used.

Lovable free plan: questions people ask

What can I build with Lovable for free?

You can try a focused website or web-app idea within the free build-credit grant. Our game and fictional portal worked as prototypes, with untested details and security limits.

How many free Lovable build credits do I get?

Current public pricing lists five daily build credits, capped at thirty a month. Unused daily build credits expire at the end of the day.

Does a working client portal mean the app is ready for real data?

No. Our demo showed status persistence and separate client/admin views, but we did not audit database security. Its demo logins were built into the app.

Does every game cost 2.10 credits?

No. That was the cost of our one recorded game request. Build costs vary with the work.

Our verdict

An exciting way to turn a focused idea into a working first draft. The game was playable and the portal showed useful behavior across sessions. Start small, watch the meter and test the details before using real data. More credits can give you room to refine; they do not replace checking the result.
