ElevenLabs v4 adds voice directions inside the script

ElevenLabs has launched v4 and v4 Turbo with inline voice directions. FreeStack tried two tags: one barely changed the line to our ears, while a later whisper test did.

What changed

ElevenLabs introduced Eleven v4 and v4 Turbo. The company says v4 can follow directions written in the script, including emotion, whispers and sound effects. Its launch page also describes steadier long-form pacing and line regeneration without vocal drift.

Why it matters

For someone making narration or dialogue, inline tags could make direction easier than generating and editing every line separately. ElevenLabs says v4 Turbo is aimed at faster, real-time uses. Those are product claims, not results from our small test.

Reality Check

We tried one line in the same Adam voice, plain and with [curiously]. To our ears, that tag made no notable change. In a later listening test, [whispers] made the narrator whisper; that later result was a labeled recap in our short, not screen-recorded footage. This is a first look at two tags, not a full v4 review. Our existing ElevenLabs free-plan review covers the broader plan and license limits, and was tested before this launch.
