Google announces Gemini 4 Carbon, with restricted access first

Google says Carbon improves coding and cybersecurity work. Access starts with selected cyber defenders, not a public Gemini rollout.

What changed

Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon on October 28, 2026. Google says the model improves coding, long-running agent tasks and cybersecurity work, including finding software flaws and writing patches.

Google says access starts this week with selected cyber defenders. It will gradually add trusted partners through the Fairwind Program.

Why it matters

The announcement focuses on software engineering and cybersecurity defense. Google reports gains in vulnerability detection, exploitation testing and patching. These are Google's claims, not results from a FreeStack test.

Reality Check

This is announcement coverage, not a hands-on review. We have not used Carbon.

Google says developer, business and consumer access will follow as soon as possible. The announcement gives no public launch date and confirms no free tier.

Google lists an introductory API price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. After the introductory period, it lists $4 and $20 respectively. The announcement does not state when that period ends.
