Gemini 4 Argon rolls out beyond restricted access, but most users must pay
Google expands Gemini 4 Argon beyond restricted access. Most users need Pro, Ultra or the paid API. Selected scientists can apply for six months of free Antigravity access. Introductory API prices expire on November 30.

What changed
Google expanded Gemini 4 Argon on October 13. The model was announced on September 30 with access limited to trusted cyber defenders. The new rollout opens more paths for developers, businesses and paid Gemini users. It does not create a general free Argon plan.
Google says Argon can work through complex coding, science, finance, legal and cybersecurity tasks. Its announcement shows official examples of code refactoring, 3D scenes and browser games. These are Google's examples and claims, not FreeStack tests.
Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can access Argon in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. Google lists Ultra access in Antigravity, AI Studio and Android Studio. Developers can use the paid Gemini API.
Why it matters
The free exception
Google is offering 10,000 scientists the highest Antigravity usage tier free for six months. Access is granted on a rolling basis and is subject to eligibility, capacity and selection. Applications are open. An application is not guaranteed access, and this is not a continuing free plan for everyone.
The launch gives more users access to a model that was previously restricted. It also gives eligible researchers a narrow free route. For most readers, the useful decision is whether the paid access and actual task cost fit their work, not whether a launch chart calls the model the best.

Reality Check
The introductory API price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. After the introductory period expires on November 30, the stated prices are $4 and $20. These are per-token rates, not a flat price per task. Cost depends on how many tokens a task uses.
We have not tested Argon or checked access in a Free account. The official app rollout names Pro and Ultra, and developer access names the paid API. The Verge reports that access for Plus subscribers and free users has no clear date. Do not read Google's "available for everyone" headline as a promise of free access.
Google's benchmark and productivity figures are vendor claims. We do not rank Argon above rival models without an independent test. Lower token prices also do not guarantee a cheaper completed task.
