Drawgent brings coding agents onto an Excalidraw canvas

An open-source tool connects your own coding agent to a live Excalidraw whiteboard. Here is what the maker says it does, and what we have not tested.

What changed

Drawgent is a Rust app that connects a logged-in Claude Code, Codex or opencode session to an Excalidraw canvas. You can ask for a diagram in chat or write an AGENT: note by a shape; the agent sees the scene and can edit it live.

Why it matters

Instead of asking an agent for a static diagram and pasting it elsewhere, you can point to part of a drawing and request a change in the same canvas. It may make iterative diagrams easier for people who already use a coding agent.

Reality Check

This is a sourced news explainer with our own illustration, not footage of a FreeStack hands-on test. The repository declares an MIT license, but Drawgent needs your own installed and logged-in coding agent, and that agent may cost money. We have not verified setup, reliability or the workflow on our own account. Its README also says live Codex attach had not yet been tested against a logged-in Codex session.
